Tanisha navigates the world as a largely privileged individual. However, parts of their identity are marginalized, a fact that remains invisible unless voluntarily divulged. This dissonance of witnessing how communities they are a part of are being oppressed while occupying the space of an oppressor, made Tanisha realize that advocating for change is not simply an option — it is their responsibility. To further this cause, Tanisha has volunteered and engaged with organizations and initiatives that advocate for Queer Rights, Disability Rights, and Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Rights.
During their undergraduate studies in Psychology, Tanisha became curious and critical of the intersections between an individual’s social location and their mental health. They recognize that mental health is influenced by several social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental factors and thus, cannot be understood in isolation from the same. This comprehension of intersectionality, combined with their experience volunteering for different organizations, led to the formation of Mental Health Decolonized, a digital campaign Co-Founded by Tanisha that aims to curate knowledge & establish discourse about Mental Health & Psychology from a Social Justice Perspective.
Tanisha is currently a fellow at One Future Collective (OFF 2021) and is pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Counseling Psychology from Fergusson College, Pune. They have completed their Bachelor of Arts from FLAME University (Batch of 2020), where they specialized in Psychology and studied Sociology for their electives. They wish to pursue their Master’s in Psychology or Social Work (with a focus on Mental Health). In doing so, Tanisha aims to become a justice-oriented researcher and/or psychologist striving for collective liberation.
