🌀 Step-by-Step Facilitation Guide 🌀 |
Step 1: Setting the Stage (5 minutes) Start by creating a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. Remind everyone that this is a space to dream big, think creatively, and reflect deeply. Encourage everyone to get comfortable and open up to new ideas. You can start with a brief icebreaker to loosen up the group and set the tone for an engaging discussion; maybe ask everyone to share one word that describes their current workplace. This will get everyone thinking about the contrast between their reality and their ideal workplace. Step 2: Breakout Groups (10 minutes) Split the participants into smaller groups (3-5 people each) and assign them to breakout rooms or small spaces where they can have an intimate conversation. Make sure the groups are diverse in terms of backgrounds and experiences, as this will make the conversation richer. In each group, invite participants to start imagining their ideal workplace. Ask them to think about how it looks, feels, and functions. Use these guiding questions to spark their thinking: 𖥔 What’s the atmosphere like? How do people treat each other? 𖥔 Is there respect, trust, and collaboration? 𖥔 How do leaders behave? 𖥔 Are they open, accessible, fair, and good listeners? 𖥔 How does the organisation handle conflict? How are decisions made? Encourage participants to get specific. For example, if someone mentions a “supportive” environment, ask them to describe what that looks like in action. What does it sound like? What does it feel like? Step 3: Addressing Real Scenarios (10 minutes)Once the groups are envisioning their ideal workplaces, ask participants to recall specific experiences they’ve had in their current or past workplace and imagine how those situations could be handled in their ideal feminist workplace. For example: 𖥔 Imagine a time when you felt unheard—how would that be different in your ideal space? 𖥔 Think about a difficult decision your manager had to make—how would they approach it in a feminist, inclusive way? This exercise helps them connect their ideals to real-world scenarios, and makes the vision more tangible and actionable. Step 4: Group Reflection (5 minutes) After participants have had time to brainstorm and discuss in their groups, bring everyone back together. Have each group share their vision of the ideal workplace, highlighting the key elements they discussed. Ask them to focus on the why behind their choices. This part of the session should spark dialogue, so encourage participants to ask each other questions, challenge ideas respectfully, and build on what others have shared. Step 5: Action Planning (5 minutes) Now that everyone has shared their vision, it’s time to think about how to make it happen. In their groups, ask participants to choose one or two elements of their ideal workplace that they feel are most important and actionable in the short term. These could be things like: 𖥔 Setting up regular feedback channels for employees 𖥔 Creating more transparent decision-making processes 𖥔 Training leaders to be more accessible and supportive 𖥔 Developing a conflict resolution system that prioritises care and fairness Have each group come up with a concrete action plan for one of their chosen elements—something they can start doing right now. Encourage them to think about practical steps they can take, even if they’re small, to bring their vision to life. The idea is to inspire action, no matter how big or small, and ensure that everyone leaves with a sense of purpose and direction. Step 6: Wrap-Up (5 minutes) End the session with a brief reflection. Ask participants to take a moment to think about what they’ve learned and how they can apply it to their own workplaces. Invite them to share any key takeaways or personal commitments they’re making after the activity. This could be something as simple as committing to speak up more in meetings or to advocate for more inclusive leadership practices. Finish on a positive note. Remind everyone that change starts with them, and that small, intentional actions can create ripples of transformation. Let them know that they have the power to help shape workplaces where everyone feels heard, valued, and empowered. |
